What you will experience
Our tour starts at the Golden Gate area, the main entrance to the ancient Kiev. We will meet near the Yaroslav the Wise Monument. Nearby, we will see several wonderful ex-mansions of the local nobility, such as the Baron's House and the Karaite synagogue in the Moorish style.
We will continue to Sophiivska Square, to the St. Sophia's Cathedral, included on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Taking nice pictures on the background of the dramatic Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky Monument, you will enjoy the beautiful views of the another sight – St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery.
We will visit the famous Andriyivsky Descent, also called Kiev's Montmartre. I think it's the most fascinating street in the city and it features a great variety of art galleries, museums, theatres, cafés, bars and restaurants. On top of the St. Andrew's Descent, we will find St. Andrew's Church of the 18th century, worth admiring and appreciating!
Then, we will go on and arrive at the Saint Volodymyr Hill, where the Kyiv Funicular is located too. This place offers stunning views over the Dnipro river and the left bank of Kiev, as well as over the picturesque slopes of the Khreshchaty Park with the one of the main landmarks - the People's Friendship Arch.
Walking around the newly opened magnificent glass bridge, we will reach a spacious European Square with the National Philharmonic of Ukraine and other remarkable attractions. Let's follow through Khreshchatyk Street and Independence Square or Maidan, the heart of Kiev, a must-stop for all the visitors!
The central area boasts a wide range of stores (where you can buy Ukrainian handmade souvenirs), cafés and restaurants (where you can try traditional Ukrainian cuisine too). Don't hesitate to take this tour with me, the knowledgeable and very experienced local guide and I become your good friend in my native city!
