Local culture: Neighborhoods

Art Deco Flats at Tiong Bahru

Why Keith loves this neighborhood

A heritage housing estate built by Singapore Improvement Trust(SIT) under the colonial British government. The most prominant feature of this estate is the Art Deco architecture. Stroll along the streets and alleys, and explore the small cafes, bookstores and bakeries. Not to forget, to drop by the Tiong Bahru Market for some local food.

Things you should not miss

Block 78 has a unique curved ‘horse-shoe’ shaped which straddles Moh Guan Terrace and Guan Chuan Street. The section on Guan Chuan Street features a purpose-built air raid shelter, the first to be included in a public housing project.
