Nature near Kotor: Fort Vrmac and St. Ilija hill

What is the local activity?

Visit to the old Austro-Hungarian fort Vrmac, enjoyable picnic in the nature near the fort or beautiful few hours hiking tour.

Starting from Vrmac Fort it takes around 1:30 hour with breaks to reach the top of the St. Ilija hill and enjoy the stunning view. The hiking tour is not too demanding, but during the summer months it can be because there is not a lot of shade on your path.

I love this tour because the Vrmac Peninsula divides Kotor part of the Bay from Tivat part of the Bay, and from the top of the hill you can see both sides.

What to consider before participating in this local activity

Starting from old town Kotor to Vrmac Fort, it is 10km or 15 minutes ride. Park your car near the Vrmac Fort.

If you are up to hiking, the best time is definitely not in the summer. :) If you decide to go bring a looooot of water and create improvised shade. The first 10, 15 minutes of the hike you will have shade, but than all the way to the top there is almost none.

If you choose not to hike, take a short walk around the Vrmac fort. If you are brave enough bring a flashlight to explore the inside of the fort. :)

The activity is free of charge. There is no entrance fee.

I suggest you to do it with a guide ;-)
