Best Coastal Walk in Gijon
Be the first to like this tip!
What is it?
There's a great coastal walk starting at the eastside of Gijon's main beach (Playa de San Lorenzo). You start walking along the boulevard with some cozy beach bars and continue following the coastline. Along the way, you'll find a couple of statutes, of which I find 'Mother of the Emigrant' the most impressive. It's a remembrance of all the mothers (and fathers) saying farewell to the many children emigrating from Asturias to 'the Americas'.
When continuing, you'll find high cliffs, rocky areas and small beaches worth exploring. After 6k, you'll reach Cape San Lorenzo Park with the great viewpoint 'Mirador de la Providencia', built in the shape of a ship. It's a great park to chill and enjoy the views. You can choose to walk back the same way, or continue as long as you want and discover the 'Turtle Island' or the pretty little chapel 'La Providencia'. Recommended if you want to get a taste of the beautiful Asturian coastline!
The coastal track to San Lorenzo park is broad, safe and well-accessible, but since it goes a bit up and down and the last part is made out of small boulders, a basic condition is required and the path is not accessible for wheelchairs and (normal) strollers.
